About the Play:

Garage Girls, written in 2023 by three young women and professionally produced only once, is a captivating play set in 1920s Melbourne—a time when society was still reeling from the aftermath of World War I, women’s fashion set bold new trends, and the city thrummed with the excitement of motorcars. At the centre is Alice Anderson: mechanic, trailblazer, entrepreneur, and founder of Australia’s first all-girl garage.

Sparked by real historical events, Garage Girls shines a light on Alice Anderson’s short but eventful life during a time of societal change. The play explores how her determination and ingenuity challenged the era’s boundaries, offering women unprecedented independence and opportunity when such things were anything but ordinary.

Originally crafted as a radio-style play, the Nowra Players bring Alice’s story to life through fast-paced performances, actors skillfully portraying multiple roles to highlight her daring, ambition, resilience, and the impact of women supporting women.

Auditionees must be 17+ and we are after folks of all adult ages and genders.
